hour 1 Lions are going extinct

Half of Africa's Lions are facing extinction

Summary:
Only about 25% of the lion population is present in Africa right now, only about 30,000. Recently, scientists from the University of Minnesota conducted a research about the lions in Africa, and found out that the population in nearing extinction quickly. Right now, the only way to save these wild animals is to fence out the lions and keep them from being hunted by humans. Humans caused this population to decrease drastically over the last years, and they are trying to bring them back to life by keeping threats away from them. They are looking for a way to make the contact between humans and lions to be at a minimum.

  1. I found this article to be very interesting. I knew that the Lion population was declining but I was not aware that is was nearing extinction. However, the way humans are expanding and with the rapid development in Africa it will be hard to distance humans from lions.

This is another article about the relationship between humans and lions:

  2. I also saw this article and thought that it was weird that the lion population would be going extinct because we normally think of them as the king of the jungle. I also found this website that says there was a disease that spread throughout the lion populatin so maybe that would have contributed to the decline in their population. 3. I was unaware that that the lion population was declining at all so I found this article very intriguing. I found an article saying that poachers are killing the lions in amounts that are not counted. This is a problem in my mind because the killing of lions is not being controlled. If we could control the amount of lions that are killed, it would help the decline in poulation.

  4. I thought that this article was very thought-provoking. I always see the commericial on the television about how you can help to save the lion population but it never says how low the population actually is. It is sad to think only 25% of the lion population is present in Africa, and it is partially because of humans hunting them. It's terrible that we are the source for many animal species' populations decreasing drastically or even going extinct. A way to stop the population from decreasing is to stop hunting them and let the lions live freely.
