It is estimated that ctas are responsible for between 1.4 and 3.7 billion birds a year.  That is up from an earlier estimate of only 5oo million birds a year.  There is an estimated 10 to 20 billion birds livin in the United States, therefore the cats are making a big dent in the bird's population.  Approximately 114 million cats live in the United States.  Researchers are trying to figure out a way to control the growth of the cat's population, but they have yet to come up with an idea that is not too expensive.  Cat owners need to be responsible for their cat and make sure the cat is not adding to this problem.
