New Species of Dinosaur Found in Madagascar

In 2010 remenants of a dinasuar was found in Madagascar.  At first it seemed as though it was nothing special, but recently it was discovered that this dinasuar is a new species.  The dinasuar is called Dahalokely tokana (pronounced "dah-HAH-loo-KAY-lee too-KAH-nah").  It is carnivorous and belongs to a dinasuar group called abelisauroids.   Dahalokely tokana was believed to have lived in Madagascar and India when those countries weren't seperated.  Prior to finding this dinasuar scientists didn't have any dinasuar remains between 70 and 165 million years ago, leaving a 95 million year gap with no fossils.  Dahalokely tokana lived around 90 million years ago, which means it shortened the gap with no fossils by 20 years.  This is part of why this discovery is so important.  Dahalokely belongs to a group called abelisauroids, carnivorous dinosaurs common to the southern continents.\
