This article explains not only how deforestation is effecting the tropical forests of the world, but so is global warming. These two things combined together will result in a loss of many species around the world. The scientists in this article used satellites and computers that asses the global temperature from the years 2000 - 2005 to see the effects of logging and global warming on the forests. One of the scientists Gregory Asner concludes that the amazon will be the most affected forest region. From the evidence taken in by the satellites and computers, they are able to predict that the amazon is susceptible to a 57 to 81 percent change in biodiversity by 2100. This is very important for us as a species on the earth to take care of the earth and use different resources that may not be affected as much.

Deforestation is one of the worst things that the human race could ever do to the world. I think this article hits it right on the head. The trees that we are killing for our own use filter carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and give us the oxygen we need to breath. As we cut them down, we slowly lose the ability to purify our air and with the amount of pollution we thrust into the atmosphere, that's not a good thing. We are also uprooting many interesting and beautiful creatures, destroying their homes, food sources and ultimately them. The fact that we have probably killed many species that we didn't and still don't know about is really sad because we're losing out on the opportunity to see some amazing stuff. All in the name of building some more houses and making some paper.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment that deforestation is a terrible thing that we as people have done, and while it was necessary as a race to provide homes for ourselves, it is quite costly at the expense of other organisms. I believe that certain conservation methods need to be employed to preserve the wide variety of diverse creatures left in tropical forests. I did some research and conservation attempts have been done in the past as this article mentioned about the Tropical Forest Conservation Act(TFCA)of 1998. I believe if acts like these are more strictly enforced and if proper budgets are established to counter not only deforestation but as well as what this post mentioned about global warming and reducing the co2. Ultimately we as people need to create a more sustainable energy plan by not cutting down our resources and manufacturing them in a harmful way, but to utilize clean energies and especially through solar power technologies a lot can be achieved to preserve the remaining tropical forests.

I think it is really scary to think about deforestation and how many of our resources can run out. The habitats of animals everywhere are being destroyed and we need to help them by hurting their environment less, and not polluting. I don't think people are aware enough of the problems going on in the environment, or they think it won't effect them. But it is effecting all of us, and soon all of the future generations. If we all combined our power, the changes that could be made would be unimaginable. Reducing waste and reusing current resources can make a big difference in our environment. Certain species of animals are bound to go extinct if we dont change how we treat their living space.
ReplyDeleteDeforestation isn't only affecting the animals. I found in an article that deforestation can lead to lesser amounts of rain, which can be devastating in the dry season.
