Researchers at the University of California-San Fransisco have found a possible cure to Parkinson's Disease, Epilepsy, Alzheimer's Disease, and many other neurological disorders. They created a human brain cell in their labretory from Stem cells. When these cells were transplanted into mice, they grew perfectly without any problems. This experiment is the start of what could be a cure to neurological disorders. The cells were a type of human nerve-cell
progenitor called the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE) cell. The mouse brain is showing in perliminary experiments, how the human brain should react. This cell could control nerve circuts which become overactive in a neurological disorder. This research holds many promises for the future.
NOS Themes:
1. Science is colaborative- A team of researchers worked togeather
2. Science is based on evidence- The researchers had evidence that MGE could cure neurological disorders
3. Importance of repeatability- It is important that these results can be repeated in order to find a cure.

ReplyDeleteThis website above shows a new found cure that may be injected up the nose to cure Parkinson's disease. I believe that this supports the article you read, they just have not tested this on rats yet! very important!
This is a great article! I know some one who has Parkinson's disease, but he lives his day like any other human! He has persevered through it, even though he has challenges during the day. This would be amazing, that in the future, there could be a possible cure to a life ending disease. The link below is a cool story who had surgery at 34 years old for Parkinson's disease. It is not a cure, but an improvement in tremor (shaking) and other symptoms.

What an interesting article! I didn't know what Parkinson's disease is, so I researched and found that it is a disease of the nervous system and effects a person's movement. It can cause shaking, which is most common, but it can also cause stiffness or slower movements. It would help many people if this research can prove correct, and continue to heal brain cells.

That is a very interesting article! I looked up other possible cures for epilepsy only. I found that a device was made that helped reduce or stop seizures. This device is called vagus nerve stimulation therapy. It reduced the seizures of a women from 2 to 3 a day to 1 to 2 a month. I really hope they can find a permanent cure.
