The
Green Turtle is an endangered species in Florida. Turtles lay eggs on land, and
while the young make their way to the ocean, many do not survive. People have
been protection areas of turtle eggs and designating areas for turtle eggs,
without knowing how successful this is. A recent study was conducted to find
out if these areas helped bring the Green Turtle population up. Scientists
tagged and tracked mother sea turtles as they moved from beaches to the ocean.
The goal was to find out if these turtles spent their time in the protected
areas, and that is what they found. They also were able to photograph areas
where the turtles gathered. This helped the researches determine what environments
attract Green Turtles. The scientists behind this research hope to continue
doing research on effective ways of protecting turtles.
Role of motivation is used because the species is endangered
and the scientists are looking to protect the turtles.
Importance of repeatability is shown because the
scientists are looking to do further research to find better ways of preserving
the species.

This was a very interesting article. I was wondering why this specie of turtle was going extinct, and why they need to protect the eggs. I found a link that explains this: http://www.seeturtles.org/988/green-turtle.html
ReplyDeleteWhat I have always wondered is how turtles like these can survive for such a long lifespan. It is very cool that they were able to track the turtles to different places and how the conservation areas set up are working so well! I also found this article about green turtles.

I found this very interesting. I remember swimming with the sea turtles in Hawaii, and it would really be a shame if they were to go extinct. I looked into why they are going extinct and I found this. http://www.wimarcs.org/news_WhyAreSeaTurtlesEndangered.htm
ReplyDeleteThis was really interesting, i never knew that " People have been protection areas of turtle eggs". I found an article on other ways to protect sea turtle to. they talk about what we can do to protect them like "Reduce the Amount of Garbage You Produce and Clean Up Trash You See On the Beach."
