Exercise can Boost Self Confidence

Scientists have discovered that short bursts of excessive increase self control and confidence. Regular exercise did not have as large of an impact on the brain. The explanation for the increase of self control is that the pre-frontal cortex gets more oxygen. Tests were conducted on people ages 6-35 years old, and the different age did not have a large affect on the results. These short bursts of exercise could help people with ADHD or autism by increasing self control.

NOS Themes:

-science is based on evedence; the scientists needed consistent resaults to make their conclusion.
-science is tentative; the results of the tests on regular exercise went reliable enough to draw conclusions

  1. I knew that exercise increases your endorphins which makes you happy after to good workout, but I never knew that short bursts of energy could increase confidence and self control. I was also surprised that short bursts of exercise increases confidence and self control more than long exercise.

  2. It makes sense that exercise would boost self confidence because people who workout are usually contempt with their body image and that would in turn boost self confidence. So does the fact that you are getting bursts of oxygen boost self confidence?

  3. The website I went to explained the functions of the prefrontal cortex. Some of its functions are the ability to make good choices, focusing, planning for the future, and many other functions. Well, when you exercise and give that part of the brain extra oxygen, I believe that it would improve these functions of the prefrontal cortex. I bet making good choices, focusing, and planning for the future would give anyone an extra boost of self-confidence.

  4. This is interesting because I learned in gym that short bursts of aerobic exercise can help people with ADHD focus and increase self-control. Some alternative schools in Canada require 20 min of aerobic exercise before class, and teachers say that this increases test scores and attentiveness in class. This could be due to the oxygen going to your pre-frontal cortex during the exercise.

  5. We are always taught in health class and in Phy Ed that exercise can make you feel better, boost your confidence, and make you healthier all around. I never knew that until now that there was a scientific reason why. The impact of the brain exercise has is astounding. Here is another article I found on the other scientifical benefits of exercising.
