Scientists debating about nothing

What are you doing today? Some people would simply reply "nothing". But what is nothing? Scientists are debating about what nothing is. Is it just the lack of time and space? Is it just a dark, empty space? What about mathematicaly? Is nothing zero? This is what scientists want to know.
Many scientists can not agree what nothing would be considered, if anything at all. Maybe nothing will never be figured out.

  1. Nothing, as in the void of space? Because in space, there is literally nothing. It is a vacuum, void of substance, solid liquid or gas.
Also, mathematically speaking, nothing is zero, because zero is the placeholder for no things. There are zero things, ergo there is nothing.
The lack of time is quite another issue that I cannot address, because the last instance of time not existing was before the big bang, which generated time and space. It could, however, be a topic for debate if time passes at all in some areas devoid of matter as well.

  2. In my opinion nothing is simply used when one thinks of them self as doing nothing productive or benefiting them self in any way. This can be done by just laying around and being lazy or just staring of into space.
