How Individuality Develops

This article explains the experiment done in which several mice were equipped with micro-chips emitting electromagnetic signals. These chips were used to monitor brain activity, specifically in the hippocampus, the region of the brain that supports learning and new memories. The scientists were looking for changes in the neurons in these mice's brains to see how changes in their environment can effect brain development. These mice were bred so that their DNA is almost identical, but they still were showing major differences in their brains.

  1. I found this intersting, since I just took the AP Psychology exam last monday. When studying for it, I learned that there are a ton of different theories about how individuality is developed. Many think that there is a part of our consciousness that is not readily available to our conscious mind, but it still effects it greately, and things like childhood memories and trauma are put in there, which effects our behavior. This is called the unconscious. Maybe from this study, scientists will look more closely at the way the hippocampus interacts with the unconscious, and maybe it will lead to more consensus in the psychological community.

  2. ^I forgot my link. http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-05-individuality-growth-brain-cells.html

I would also like to say that this link above is a purely medical reason as to why individuality develops. My link for the psychology thing would by my psych book, which if you really care I can bring to class.
